Website redesign & optimization

From Browsing to Booking: A Funnel-First Redesign for Canyon Explorations

Canyon Explorations has been running human-powered rafting trips through Grand Canyon since 1986, but their website wasn’t turning decades of expertise into bookings. Liquid Spark rebuilt the site around how today’s travelers actually research and decide, guiding visitors from curiosity to a real conversation with the team, without losing the artisan, river-worn character that makes Canyon Explorations who they are.

CLIENT CHALLENGE

Turn a beautiful but passive website into a true guide that drives higher bookings, without losing any authenticity.

Canyon Explorations and Canyon Expeditions hold two of only sixteen concession contracts for whitewater trips in Grand Canyon, offering true human-powered adventure (paddle boats, duckies, dory) guided by a team with decades on the river. But the website wasn’t doing that expertise justice. The homepage led with beautiful photos instead of a clear reason to choose Canyon Explorations, and Trip Types and Trip Lengths buried the details first-timers needed most in long blocks of text, with no easy way to compare options. Since a multi-day, human-powered trip through the canyon calls for a real conversation, not a one-click purchase, the site needed to guide visitors confidently toward that call or email, not around it.

Canyon Explorations wanted to reach a broader, more diverse audience beyond their loyal core of returning guests and their families, without compromising the trust and word-of-mouth reputation built over nearly forty years of guiding.

Our old website was beautiful and conveyed the aesthetic that we sought but it was antiquated and made it difficult for visitors to understand why they should choose us. Liquid Spark took the time to understand what makes Canyon Explorations different: a participatory rafting and hiking trip with unique boat choices, guided by people with decades of river experience, and curated by knowledge gained over 40 years of continual operations in the Grand Canyon. They rebuilt the website to help participants understand what sets us apart while maintaining our focus on the beauty and uniqueness of every Canyon trip.

THE SOLUTIONS

What We Did

Booking-Journey Navigation

Restructured the site around how guests actually decide: Grand Canyon River Trips, Trip Details, Trip Planning, About, replacing anchor-link submenus with dedicated, keyword-rich pages for each trip length and style.

Action-Oriented Calls-to-Action

Replaced the passive “Trip Dates + Fares” button with direct CTAs like “SEE DATES,” “Explore Trips,” and a persistent “RESERVATIONS” link in the header, so visitors move confidently toward that first phone or email conversation instead of getting lost in the site.

Scannable Trip & Boat Comparisons

Turned dense paragraphs into side-by-side trip cards for Full, Upper, and Lower Canyon (with mileage, hiking, and length at a glance) and boat-type cards for dories, paddle boats, kayaks, and oar boats, so first-time rafters can quickly see what fits them.

Trust-First Storytelling

Brought Canyon Explorations’ 40 years on the river, family ownership, 1:3 guide ratio, and NPS-authorized concessioner status into the homepage itself, alongside a rotating carousel of real TripAdvisor guest reviews.

A Distinct Brand Voice

Wrote copy that leans into what makes Canyon Explorations different, “every guest is a participant, not just a passenger,” non-motorized boats, daily hikes, stargazing, without ever promising a “safe” trip, honoring the brand’s own guardrails around adventure and risk.

AI-SEO Strong Foundation

Rewrote page content and meta titles & descriptions around real search intent. We replaced duplicate, generic metadata and edited content to answer real questions visitors are asking – across the original site. All in formats humans and AI agents can quickly read.
