Have you ever heard of a marketing swipe file? If so, awesome… if not, great. For this Facebook Friday post I’m going to teach you how to develop an amazing marketing and creative resource that you can go to for inspiration at any time using free tools given to you by Facebook!

First. What is a Marketing Swipe File?

A marketing swipe file is a central repository (of any kind) where you stash images, text, videos or anything really that has the potential to inspire your marketing. Personally, I have a number of them from folders on my desktop to files in Google drive to store images I take from my cellphone. Today, I’m going to show you how to build a swipe or inspiration file from your favorite Facebook ads, posts, images and video.

Build Your Swipe/Inspiration File

First off, you need to have Facebook open to your default newsfeed page. This can be done from your desktop computer, tablet or mobile device. Lets look at a Facebook ad that I personally found in my feed from the folks at Kammok . This is a carousel type ad that when you click on the arrow or swipe on mobile each image tells the story of this cool and versatile piece of adventure gear. Now to build that swipe file!

First, click the carrot in the upper right hand side of any post.

Second, You’ll see that Facebook produces a dropdown with a number of options for that post. Simply click Save Link.

Third, on your desktop – take a look in your left hand side bar. For most mobile devices you can swipe left or click the menu icon. Click the SAVED menu item.

BAM! You have a easily accessible swipe file organized by date and post type!

It’s super simple and I ad inspiration to my swipe file daily. Sometimes its a cool video transition or an amazing landing page after clicking on the link. When I get into a creative slump or remember something I’d like to refer to I can simply head into the SAVED tab and roll my sleeves up.

Look, it’s been said many times over the years that most of what can be done has been done. I’m not entirely sold on that concept but I do believe that in a marketing sense – we can capture inspiration and develop an ah ha moment in just about any place or at any time.
